Building & Grounds Division

The Buildings and Grounds Division of Public Works is responsible for an array of tasks thru out town. Matt Whitney, Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, along with Jim Dinan, and Doug Fawkes, help care for the Town Hall, Police Department, Fire Rescue, Library, Public Works Building, Rowe House, Glendale Town Docks, The Memorial Sledding Hill, Tannery Hill Covered Bridge, Lincoln Park, Sarah Peck Park and many public gardens, flowers and memorials, throughout our town.

We have helped to create the Belknap Mountain/Potter Hill Road Community Garden, The Sledding Hill Memorial, and The Police Department Memorial. From time to time we help out with the ballfield, bandstand, village field, beach and ice rink, be it delivering supplies or seeing to repairs. We care for 12+ flagpoles, raising and lowering each as directed by the U.S. President or N. H. Governor. Recycling is also a part of our day, along with cleaning, painting, repairs, shoveling snow or watering flowers.

In 2009, Gilford was awarded the NH Beautification Award, by the N.H. Arborist Association. The award was presented by the Honorable Governor John Lynch. Since then we continue to plant lilacs, elm trees, perennials, and flowers in the many garden and memorial locations. WE ALWAYS accept and are grateful for donations of healthy perennials and small shrubs. Please call (603)527-4732 if you have some to share. Thank you!
