2009 Seat Belt Challenge

safety belt challenge.jpgOn May 5, 2009, four students from the Gilford High School participated in the 16th annual statewide Safety Belt Challenge at the NH Police Standards and Training Council.

The purpose of the challenge is two-fold. First, it gives an opportunity to explain the importance of using safety belts; and second, it demonstrates, in a fun way, how quick and easy it is to buckle up.

The Challenge consists of timed relays in which teams of four students race around an automobile and buckle themselves into each of the outboard seating positions. The team with the best overall time wins.

Team "Re-mix" consisting of, Lindsey Carr, Jenna Lembo, Jubee Kallmerten, and Lydia Bartlett, placed 17th out of 33 teams, with a time of 37.93 seconds.

The Safety Belt Challenge is sponsored by the NH Association of Chiefs of Police, NH Department of Education, NH Driver's Education Teachers Association, NH Highway Safety Agency, NH Police Standards & Training Council, and the NH Police Association.

Donation Scam

It has recently been brought to our attention that taxpayers in the town of Gilford are being asked for donations to support the Gilford Police Department.

The Gilford Police Relief Association has not sent any donations requests.  Any request for donations asking for money should be considered a scam.

The only information we have at this point is that the organization is calling itself the "Annual Gilford campaign for Law Enforcement Officers" and that they are asking you to display a decal to show support for Gilford Police Officers.  We are not associated with any fundraising efforts and no money should be sent.

If anyone is receiving this, please contact the Gilford Police Department immediately at 527-4737.

If anyone has any questions relative to funding of any organization, we strongly encourage you to first make contact with the agency listed to ensure it is legitimate.
