Fishing Derby

Annual Kainen M. Flynn Fishing Derby

To Be Announced 2013

8:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Gunstock Recreation Area

Route 11A Gilford, New Hampshire
Proceeds to benefit the Gilford Police Relief Association and the Gilford D.A.R.E. Program

Kainen was a member of the Gilford Police Department and an avid sportsman.  He loved the outdoors and especially loved fishing.  Kainen was lost on June 4th, 2003 after falling from his boat on Lake Winnisquam, doing what he loved, fishing.  During Kainen's time at the Gilford Police Department, he was very involved in the youth of the community and would volunteer his time with any youth program.  We at the Gilford Police Department along with his family and law enforcement friends would like to keep his spirit and love for our communities youth alive by holding the 8th Annual Kainen M. Flynn Memorial Fishing Derby in his honor.  As I'm sure Kainen would tell you, always remember to wear your life vest, have a great time and catch a big one for him.

Attention:  We will NOT have registration online this year.  When you arrive, please pick up your t-shirt and worms at the main tent.  Get a spot on the pond and return to the main tent at 8:45 AM.

All participants must be fifteen years of age or under and accompanied by a parent or adult.

All participants will be required to check in upon arrival to the derby to receive their t-shirt and goody bag.

All participants must wear the derby t-shirt given to them by the association upon check in the morning of the derby.

The assistance of young anglers by parents or adults is allowed, however parents cannot fish for their children and children must be actively involved in the catching of all fish.

Only one fishing line per participant will be allowed to be qualified for prizes in the derby.

All anglers must fish from the shoreline.  Boats, rafts, floatation devices, or waders will not be allowed during contest times.

All participants must adhere to the NH Fish and Game Rules and Regulations pertaining to fishing in ponds.  Please Remember there is a 5 fish or 5 lb limit.

All fish being entered into the contest will be taken by the judges and tagged.  All fish will be returned to the anglers who caught them immediately following the derby.  Any fish not claimed will be donated to the Squam Lakes Science Center for the feeding of their animals.

If you have a question about a rule or law please ask one of the many officers or staff that will be on hand.

Please try and be respectful and courteous to other anglers and give as much room between yourselves and others as possible.  Remember there will be plenty of fish and we are all here to have fun.

All fish entered in contest will be judged in the following order.  1st, weight.  If a tie in weight occurs length will be the deciding factor, and if needed time caught.  2nd, Time.  Time caught will be determined by judge entering fish so remember to get fish to the judge’s table as soon as fish are caught.

There will be no Alcoholic beverages allowed at the contest and this will be grounds for immediate disqualification and fines pertaining to open containers under Gilford Town Ordinance.

All decisions by judges are final.  Any arguments or disagreements will be immediate grounds for disqualification.
