July 23- Garden Tour and Lunch (Wednesday)
Join us to visit the home gardens of master gardener and Opechee Garden Club member Sally Doten of Gilford. The day lilies will be blooming beautifully! Bring a bagged lunch or snack, good walking shoes and a lawn chair. We will enjoy a brief tour of her gardens and enjoy the beautiful garden view as we lunch on her deck. We will meet in the town hall lobby at 10:45 am to car pool to her house. Please RSVP.
August 11- ‘Sophie C’ Boat Ride
The Motor Vehicle (M/V) Sophie C. is the oldest floating post office in the United States. Each season she provides mail service on Lake Winnipesaukee, a tradition dating back to 1892. Both of her daily mail runs take her to 5 islands (Camp Lawrence, Birch Island, Sandy Island, Cow Island and Jolly Island) where her staff delivers mail to the island residents and summer camps. In addition to being a full-service post office where these residents may purchase postal supplies and stamps, Sophie also has a collection of ice cream novelty treats and snacks for sale. A daily ice cream bar or popsicle has become quite a summer tradition for her island friends. Passengers are invited to fill out Sophie C. postcards and mail them right on board. Perhaps you can surprise a friend or relative with mail sent from a boat, complete with Sophie’s own unique, collectible cancellation stamp. Join us for the two hour tour. Ahoy!
We will meet in the town hall lobby at 1 pm to car pool to the loading dock for a 2 pm cruise. The cost is $27 per person. Must RSVP by August 8.
